West dominates 2012 ASRS Round 6 at Mallala

West Race cars finished off the season in style with a very convincing victory.

Aaron Steer (West WR1000) and James Winslow (West WX10) managed the front row for qualifying, both over seven tenths quicker than Proctor's Stohr WF1. From that point on the pattern never changed with Aaron and James 1st and 2nd for both races respectively, they were unchallenged for the whole weekend.

James was having a minor shifter issue costing valuable tenths throughout the weekend which unfortunately placed him behind Aaron.

Asher Johnston (West Wr1000) did extremely well even though weighing in 4 Kg under weight in qualifying which sent him to the rear of grid start for race 1.

Race 1 saw Aaron rocket away into the distance with fastest lap for the race, 4 tenths quicker than Winslow and a whopping 1.2 seconds faster than the next manufacturer. Asher managed to charge from last to 6th in the sprint race setting him up for race 2. Mark Laucke (West Wr1000) finished 4th after battling away with Mark Short for the duration of the race.

In race 2 Aaron unfortunately rolled a few cm before the lights went out, costing him a 5 second penalty. He realised he would be penalised, so he had to keep an unrelenting pace to position himself at least 5 seconds in front of the next car. Aaron said " I've never had to drive so hard in my life, I was racing myself trying to get every corner perfect, without worrying about defending". Asher had a fantastic race moving from 6th to 3rd place.

Winning by just over 7 seconds Aaron held 1st position after the 5 second penalty was imposed, with Winslow 7 seconds behind and Asher just behind Winslow. Aaron smashed the Sports Racer lap record and re-set it to 1:06.9364

Team West flawlessly ran 7 cars for the weekend everyone had fun and we are all looking forward to next season. Thanks to all the crew and drivers for a fun and exciting 2012 season. Bring on the 2013 season!
